Abstract
AI can now generate functional customer onboarding flows in
minutes. That changes the design question from ‘How do we
build this well?’ to ‘What are we building and why?’ A Canadian
customer confirms a credit card application on their phone. The
AI has already inferred their risk profile, sequenced the questions
accordingly and pre-selected the defaults. The customer is mid-decision, slightly rushed, reviewing terms they have seconds to
process before tapping confirm. The system records consent. What
it does not record is whether the customer understood what they
agreed to, whether the recommendation matched their actual need
or whether they knew they could stop and ask a question. Those things
were never tested. Nobody owned them. In highly regulated financial
services, that gap (between what the system recorded and what the
customer experienced) is not an oversight. It is a governance failure.
